As an english tutor, my main focus is on getting to know each student personally – their strengths, weaknesses and what they want to achieve. I feel as though a comfortable space where they feel comfortable exploring ideas, asking questions, and even making mistakes is something important as through mistakes you can learn. Offering guidance,…

A tutor’s most important role is to build the student’s confidence and independence in learning. This means not just teaching content, but creating a space where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. Encouragement, consistent feedback, and tailoring explanations to suit the student’s understanding are essential. A…

Patient, it’s very easy for people to become impatient with those they’re teaching but people who are able to hold themselves to other individual paces always end up having the most significant impact. Strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as an understanding of struggle and experience of overcoming the adversity of being…

Be honest, flexible, approachable, a good listener and most importantly, be patient. The tutor must be confident in their abilities to teach a student. The tutor should make sure the student understands the concept and does not teach too fast. I believe i am a good communicator, which helps me to strive as a tutor and easily convey important…

The fundamental thing an english tutor can do for a student is to teach and monitor the progress of a child. I call it teaching with a commitment. Aside from the broad aspects of teaching, there are other things that a tutor can do like listening to the student. What are his struggles? How does he feel towards the subject? Knowing the weaknesses…

Not only teaching content, but doing it in a clear and engaging manner is important so the student is able to learn effectively. I also believe helping the student feel comfortable is also a priority as it helps them to freely ask questions. The most important things tutors can do is to be enthusiastic and engaging about the subject their teaching their student because this then allows students to believe too, that the subject they're learning is not boring or bad. Moreover, tutors must have confidence in their student in succeeding and doing well, in which the Pygmalion effect proves…

Understand the feelings and character of different students. Some students who tutor may be gifted, however there are many also who may are demotivated and have a low-self esteem which causes them to believe they aren't good enough to excel. I believe tutors should change the perspective from studying from an extrinsic desire, for instance, marks…

To create a strong teacher and student bond and a trusting relationship. As I believe the student will have a sense of security, that they are in a safe space. Inside Beaumont HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Priya focused on Chemistry concepts including Le Chatelier's principle and solubility, as well as refining her assignment work by reviewing reliability, accuracy, and validity in experiments.

Year 11 student Alex worked through advanced annuities problems for Mathematics and revisited key skills in planning for an upcoming assessment.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ben tackled trigonometry using past paper questions and spent time practicing linear relationships and simultaneous equations, with some lessons incorporating Excel for mathematical modelling.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Chemistry, one student misplaced her calculator for multiple lessons and "forgot to keep a ruler on hand for graph questions," which slowed progress on quantitative tasks.

A Year 12 student repeatedly brought incomplete attempts to class, meaning valuable time was spent catching up rather than reviewing feedback together.

In Year 9 Maths, unclear setting out and occasional algebra errors made it harder for the tutor to pinpoint where misunderstandings were occurring—"I would highly recommend...start using an equations book" was suggested.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 Science student hesitated to write answers down, delaying practice with scientific vocabulary and explanations.

Recent Achievements

One Beaumont Hills tutor noticed a Year 11 student who, after weeks of making small algebraic errors, now double-checks her work and proactively asks to revise the trickiest questions—she even directed the flow of their last session.

Another high schooler who once hesitated to contribute in chemistry lessons has started explaining concepts out loud using scientific terms, and recently tackled several HSC-style exam questions with minimal prompting.

In Year 6, a student who used to guess through story assignments can now independently plan each section before writing and is editing his own paragraphs for clarity.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Vinegar Hill Memorial Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Beaumont Hills Public School.
