What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I really enjoy the aspect of relationship building with students. I have found that it is nearly impossible to build a trusting relationship and provide meaningful support to a student without putting time in to truly know them as an individual and not just a student. There is something so special about working through something a student is struggling with and finally finding the solution that helps them understand (and maybe even enjoy!) it.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I believe that my past experiences as a tutor and teacher have contributed to my ability to personalize lessons for individual students (finding new approaches to problems, incorporating materials that align with their interests). Furthermore, I think empathizing with students and being committed to working to their success are two more strengths I bring with me as a tutor.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

First, it is essential that a tutor provides support tailored to that student's needs, learning process, and interests. Second, a tutor must approach sessions with patience and understanding, while avoiding negativity and behavior that may discourage their student. Overall, I think creating an environment where a student feels seen and heard by their tutor is essential to a successful tutoring session.

About Naomi

Experienced Educational Support and Tutoring

This tutor has a rich background in educational roles, currently excelling as a substitute teacher for elementary and middle school levels. Her experience extends to mentoring middle school students through an after-school tutoring program, where she focused on homework help and organizing enriching activities. These roles have honed her ability to adapt teaching methods to different student needs, making learning both engaging and effective.

Specialised Instruction in Science and History

As a Teaching Fellow, this tutor taught Genetics to rising 8th graders, crafting lessons that were both informative and accessible. Additionally, during a focused internship, she developed and delivered her own history lesson plans in a high school setting. These experiences demonstrate her capability to handle specialised subject matter adeptly, ensuring that students not only learn but also develop a keen interest in the subjects.

Leadership in Educational Settings

Beyond individual tutoring, she has shown leadership by heading the Celebration Committee at a college, planning events and leading meetings that enhanced community engagement among students. Her role required coordination with administration and fostering a positive environment for dorm residents. This experience underlines her organisational skills and her ability to inspire and manage groups effectively, qualities that translate well into her tutoring approach.
