What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I find it really rewarding when a student, who previously may have had difficulties understanding a concept, finally understands it after their hardwork.
Having been there myself, I am able to tell when a student just nods mindlessly, being too intimidated to ask for a clearer explanation. I'd patiently approach the problem in a different way. Only when I hear the final "OOOHH," and the excitement in the student's voice, do I move on to the next question. This has never failed to give me a real sense of accomplishment as it shows that I have made someone genuinely understand a concept.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I believe my greatest strenght in this role is empathy, and understanding where the student needs help. Placing myself in the student's position and seeing the problem from their point of view enables me to find out what they are really troubled by. I believe this enables efficiency and a genuine understanding of the concept.
I am also confident in my communication with students, using language and simplifying ideas in a way that they can more easily understand. I often try to relate mathematical concepts back to real life so that students feel more related to these ideas.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is building their confidence. I believe in rewarding students for their hard work - wether if its a small chocolate bar, or even just a compliment. As small as it may sound, this can be essential for the students' confidence, which will naturally encourage them to achieve better results.
It is also important to help students learn from their own mistakes to reinforce learning. When I see a student is about to make a mistake, I often choose to let them complete the question first. I would then ask them to check their answer and correct it.
