What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy the process of seeing a student try and stew over something, put in the effort to assimilate information in their mind, and use that logical sequencing to form a conclusion about maths/physics they can rely on in the future. Especially in test scenarios. As a tutor, I enjoy seeing my students become more confidant in themselves, realise their affinity for learning new information, and let loose of the fear that is the fear of learning. The unknown scares people, generally, but seeing students have that ‘ahah’ moment has positive long term consequences.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Communication- I am very patient and don't judge students at all. I respect them for taking the steps to learning something new, and putting themselves out there.
Regularity: I maintain the status quo and try to teach students on a basis of relevance. I aim to do so by linking new information to old information.
Friendliness: although the archetypal role of a tutor is simply to transmit and ingrain knowledge in a student, a healthy role is more than this. It is when students are met with kindness, guaranteeing a safe space for them to learn new mate
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I try my best to instill a belief that students are just as capable as anyone else of succeeding, and that like anyone else, they are able to grasp and process information on a level that they want.
Moreso, it is important to outline to students that the most important thing is hard work- in years 11 and 12, especially, talent cannot get those 45+ marks simply alone. The best students, I have encountered, are those who approach material with spaced repetition and active recall. I think it's important to acknowledge that students must work ~alongside~ tutors and be engaged in their learning outside of tutoring sessions.
As well as this, I understand that tutoring is a stressful process for students sometimes. I'm here to listen to them, to not judge them, and to store faith in their ability to perform at the highest level, or whatever other level they wish. Especially for those in years 11 and 12, but also for anyone who takes maths: I've been there. I know how it feels when something just won't add up on paper, and I can empathize with that. So I'll never think students are "overdramatic" or "lazy" - that's just not the case. Oftentimes, we are all a little bit fearful of what we find difficult, so I'm here to provide guidance for students in this position.
