What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I love the opportunity to work alongside students and seeing them grow. As a student myself, I found the most enlightening moments to be when I am able to learn the most whilst having fun. I found that the more interesting the teacher is, the more fun it was to learn and the more I was able to absorb. Therefore, I want to be this example for my students. I also really love marking work, it has always been a personal favourite of mine.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I have the passion and the enthusiasm that will make me right for this job. My love for people originated from my current full time job, where I interact with people daily. I love meeting different types of people and I think I am able to adapt to new situations quickly and with professionalism.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel listened to and valued. I understand that in a group setting, teachers may not be able to interact and be with a single student at one time, but I want to be a tutor who is present and who can build growth in the students, not only academically but also emotionally and spiritually.

Jasper is getting so much more confident with his 3 times table and he can recall it at the top of his head! He still needs to consistently revise, but it is a really good sign when I can see that he is able to recall at least the first 6 numbers for his 3 times tables. He was able to complete the 3 digit by 2 digit numbers with relative ease and I found that he gets so happy when he gets them correct! This is good motivation because he definitely is capable, he just may not be confident at times with certain concepts.
Time is still a topic we will need to revise. He had a little bit of trouble differentiating the minute and hour hands and which to say first, so this is definitely something that can be developed in the next year. Sometimes I found his handwriting would be the other way around as well (for example his 2s and S's sometimes gets mixed up), so I would like for him to continue to revise this during the holidays, so when we get back, we can definitely pick off where we left. I hope that Jasper is able to retain and remember some of what was learnt, to get him ready for Year 4!

I think Cooper is ready for Year 6! I am incredibly proud and amazed about how far he has come, especially with maths. We started off a little rough and sometimes had to overcome many hurdles and challenges to where we are now. He has an amazing work ethic now and because there is a push to get homework done, I can see the skills and concepts are actually sticking and being retained, which is fantastic. Even if he can't remember a concept, he will try to attempt it before saying he's unsure, which is all I need from him truthfully! I can't wait for what's in store for next year and how much further he can grow.
Cooper needs to focus on handwriting and writing in general at home over Christmas and hopefully he is able to come back with more structure in this area.. He has been taught what to do, but because it has become a bit of a habit, it is hard not to revert back to what he knows. His numbers are legible but sometimes, especially when he makes a mistake, he does not rub it out, but instead writes on top of the answer, which can make it very hard to read. Revise, revise and revise is all the advice I have for the rest of the year, so that he doesn't forget what to do!

Jasper is improving by the day and his multiplication is truly something to congratulate and commend. We started with lower numbers, but he is able to incorporate his fundamental knowledge of his times tables to the question. He is particularly confident in the lower numbers, including 1, 2, 3 and 5. This is something I would like him to continue doing, but his concept of multiplication with the grid, adding the little number at the top, all was done perfectly and I couldn't be more proud! It's really rewarding to see how excited he gets and how he feels after getting a question correct, because it is giving him more confidence and more reassurance that he is on the right path.
Jasper is still quite poor at spelling unfortunately, he can spell many small words but has a little bit of trouble with 5 and 6 letter words, especially those with silent sounds. Phonics is something we need to work on together, but this could be something he learns at school or with a speech therapist. His understanding of the letters is good, but often struggles with the placement of it. It helps when we play Hangman, because the amount of words are shown to him, which can give him a good guide if he's on the right track. I do encourage more free writing to allow ideas and sentences to align, hopefully to strengthen his vocabulary as well as his sentence structure and speed of writing.

Cooper shows me each time I see him that his skills are getting sharper, his reflexes when asked questions are getting better and his attitude towards learning becoming greater. He seems to really enjoy and responds well to positive reinforcement and we do have a lot of fun with spelling and maths equations. He is not afraid to admit when he thinks something is too hard or he knows the answer is wrong, so I feel like admitting it is a big part to fixing it. His mental arithmetic is improving each and every day, and it definitely makes it easier to marry division and multiplication together, if his multiplication is quite strong to begin with. He is very proficient at spelling, I even picked out some Year 6 words that he really enjoyed and actually was able to get so many of them correct, with ease!
We went through some new concepts today, some more challenging than others, so I hope the homework ties in his learning with application and he is able to complete them by himself. I am really happy with his progress so far, I hope we can have some time to revise some of the work we went through. It made me happy that he learnt a concept at school that we went through previously already, so this makes it so much more important to retain and understand what has been taught and apply what we have learnt together in a classroom setting. He mentions there were kids who understood the concept right away even though it was their first time hearing of it, which I don't want Cooper to be discouraged by at all, practice makes perfect and we are on a marathon, not a sprint :)
