What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most about tutoring is simply helping students succeed and make a difference in their lives, no matter how small or big. I always love getting to meet new people and work with younger kids and being some sort of role model to them. I enjoy getting to see them grow in their learning and knowledge. I love that being a tutor means I can also inspire younger students to work hard and strive to achieve their goals.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths as a tutor is that I am easily able to make a connection with the student. I am friendly and personable, so I can make them feel comfortable or as if I am their equal and can be a friend to them. I am also able to identify different learning styles and adapt my teaching methods accordingly, while coming up with a tailor-made/individualised learning program for each student. I also have initiative so I will make try my best to find the appropriate resources and tools to help each student succeed in their particular subject goals.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe that getting high grades in school is not the most important goal for my student (although this is something we work towards), but rather what is most important for me as a tutor is to see them learn, progress and improve each time. I want to teach them the value of hard work while building up their confidence and motivation to tackle any challenge that comes their way. I also think teaching the student to use critical thinking and using different ways to solve a problem in math or any other subject is important. Above all, helping them to enjoy what they do and not to give up easily.

Abigail needed a little bit of prompting to come up with some arguments (for both sides) for the topic, however, overall, she did a good job in being able to think of some good reasons for why kids should and should not have to learn how to swim and also was able to put them in order of her strongest to 'weakest' reasons and expand on her points
Some things Abigail can work on and tips I gave for her to remember are to make sure she knows her persuasive text structure (what to include in her introduction and conclusion) and making sure she maximises her reading/planning time

Abigail is pretty new to learning angles but after going through them, she was able to correctly identify all the different types of angles She also is good with her place value which made explaining to her how decimals can be put in whole number + fraction form much easier
Abigail just needs a bit more support with reinforcing the basic skills, particularly in arithmetic operations, how to do subtraction with 3 digit numbers and when the top number is smaller, and long division

Abigail is continuing to improve in her general punctuation and grammar skills and also learning how to structure different writing texts in paragraphs, including a title, having an introduction and conclusion, etc..
It was a bit hard to get any ideas out of Abigail at times - she often said she couldn't remember or wasn't sure what she did in the holidays which is understandable but can be a bit tricky especially for writing activities such as recount writing. I am trying to continue to work on this with her and encourage her to use her imagination and creativity more especially for NAPLAN coming up

Today I explored some new concepts with Abiola, especially electron configuration and identifying patterns with the arrangement of electrons and the placement of elements in the periodic table. She was also really good at remembering the first few elements of the periodic table by heart.
We got ahead with some biology content, by Abiola's request and understandably so she didn't know as much of the concepts but I was able to introduce some of these to her and she understood it well and I'm sure she will continue to do great especially when she starts the biology content in class next term
