What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Having done 6 months of volunteer tutoring, I find that the most rewarding outcome is to see the student develop a passion for study and be willing to work hard. Although improved exam grades are a positive feedback for me as a tutor, I am more satisfied if the student enjoys learning and develops a habit of regularly studying, setting them up in the long term.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
As a tutor, I like to teach most topics conceptually. For example, I prove formulas when possible instead of merely memorizing them, giving students a more holistic understanding on the topic. This enables students to do different questions that use the same underlying concept. I am also very hardworking and patient, having stayed up to 30 minutes longer when I was a volunteer tutor if the student was still confused.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing is for a tutor to be open minded and accept that different students must be taught in different ways. It is important to take 1/2 sessions to get to know the student's study patterns, weaknesses and style of learning before teaching to tailor a specific study plan. It is also imperative for the tutor to know the students goals and constantly get feedback from the student and their parents. Hence, by staying open minded, tutors can target students more specifically.
