What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy the most is watching students grow into their own writing voice and gain confidence when it comes to structuring, writing out and proofreading written work. It makes for a rewarding experience for us both, especially as this is a process that takes time and lots of trial and error. Just like spoken voices, writing voices are unique to each individual, and helping students access that is an incredible privilege for me, while being a skill that will stay with them throughout their lives.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I am incredibly patient and prioritise people’s well-being over all else, so will give the students a safe space to learn, struggle, make mistakes and relearn until they succeed. I also have experience and thoroughly enjoy editing written work, as it ties into my own course and potential career path of editing/ publishing quite closely. As a creative writing student who’s workshopped written work with other students in the past and as someone who has spent years editing articles, a skill I have garnered is being able to edit work without interfering with the writer’s voice, style and aims.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is provide accurate and constructive feedback in a way that is appropriate and encouraging. Being able to critique and challenge whilst being gentle and supportive is key, not only to the student’s academic growth, but also to their character development as resilient individuals in the face of what seems like an obstacle.
