What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Honestly, my favourite moments when it comes to tutoring is when a student starts to give a wrong answer, goes "wait...oh!", then corrects themselves, without any input from me. It's that little "oh" sound I love, the instant the lesson finally clicks into place and everything starts making sense.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strength is in my attitude. I appear much more casual and laid-back compared to most of my peers, which helps my students to relax a little more, and opens up more communication. With communication comes information, which lets me diagnose what issues are there are, and what can be done about them. I also enjoy just having fun, and it's easier to learn when you're enjoying it.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The biggest thing would be to help students understand that ignorance is not failure. Just because they don't know something "basic", that does not mean they are worse than others, or are stupider, or are not going to succeed. It simply means they were not taught in a way that makes sense to them. This could be for a number of reasons, and not always from poor teaching or poor listening. Sometimes it is simply bad luck or circumstances out of anyone's control, which is more true now in this day and age of COVID.
The best thing a tutor can do is teach without judgement.

Needs to calm down and slow down, and be willing to try different approaches. Make the problems simple. Math is weirdly malleable, and you can make it work for you so things make sense. Don't be afraid to play with the numbers.

Confidence, confidence, confidence! Student freezes up when overwhelmed, shuts down, second guesses, and that's where most errors are coming from. Also, bring them notes for next time!

Translating real world issues to formulas that can be solved mathematically. Read your problems out like a math sentence, and if it doesn't make sense, try again. Math is full of patterns, and once they're understood, it should fall into place easier.
