What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I would say I really enjoy 2 things :
- The fact that I am able to share my knowledge with someone else who is in need of it, and who is interested in becoming a better version of themselves.
- The situations where you are really able to see someone progress throughout a lesson, or throughout the semester.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
- I have already worked in the professional world, and can give sense/application to the mathematical or physical tools I am using.
- I already have deep knowledge and maturity of various concepts used in mathematics or physics.
- I am not Australian, but French. Although it obviously impacts my fluency in English (I am not native), I know of different learning methods, that might be adapted to some students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
For me, the most important thing a tutor can bring to a student is the ability to be independent in his work (no matter the subject or the field). A tutor is responsible for sharing his knowledge with a student in order for him to be independent and proud of himself when he reflects back on where he started and where he is now.

- Raphael is now comfortable with every base operation in the book, which greatly facilitates all exercises. - We are starting to see good ideas being proposed in terms of solving equations and so on, which is a good sign.
Although you may have good idea, try to go a step further, and not only copy previous methods, but understand WHY we are doing these steps. - Try and be as focused as possible, so that you don't make avoidable mistakes. - Put in extra work on the concept of inequations, more specifically on the basics : comparing numbers (which one is bigger than the other ? Smaller ? and so on ...)

- Again, Raph has a good grip when it comes to geometry. He understands the concepts pretty quickly. - The homework from last week was complete, which is good (but really needs to be like that all the time). - Very good signs of progress when it comes to multiplication/powers.
- Again, take your time not to make mistakes (for example when copying a formula). - Put in extra work outside of the sessions. - Review the material : scientific notation and equations mainly. - Of course, ask questions. I know sometimes you think you understood/will understand later, but it is rarely the case, so instead of brushing stuff under the carpet, ask on the spot (even ideas/questions that seem hollow have to be asked to be sure you understand).

- Raph has a good grip when it comes to geometry. He gets the concepts and theory pretty fast. I think that is due to the fact he can picture it. - Remembers the method for the equations, which is great. It is important to keep building on that and become confident. - Overall more at ease with indexes, fractions, equations, and numbers in general.
- Make sure that you read and write down the instructions well. As you have seen, most of the time you don't write down the stuff properly, and then you end up mixing everything and getting lost. - Make sure you do as much as possible from the homework sheets. - Go over the material we have studied together again. You will have a better understanding of it, and you will see connections with new material.

- In my opinion, the theory behind expansion and factorization has been understood. We went through an extensive number of exercises, and by the end of the session, at least the method was understood. - I have no worries about multiplications, since Raph was able to detect by himself the construction of some equations based on multiplications. - I think Raph way of writing down the expressions and organizing them on his worksheet has greatly improved.
- I have seen progress in the focus Raph has not to write different numbers from one line to another. It is not perfect though, so keep working on that. These mistakes are easily avoidable and will save you a lot of trouble. - Please do extra work about negative numbers and subtraction that bring you into the negative realm (ex : 2-3). It is really important you are comfortable with that. - Go over what we have already seen when you have time. Even only reading the toolboxes will help you better understand / make sure you understood everything correctly (especially important when we study topics that compound various tools we have seen before).
