What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The most enjoyable part of tutoring for me would have to be seeing the student truly enjoy studying a subject, as there’s nothing worse than being forced to study something you hate (having been through that, I understand how it feels). I would like to be given the chance to help a student improve in a subject that they strongly dislike or struggle with as I, myself, absolutely despised chemistry when I was in high school and refused to study it in years 11 and 12. However, since being forced to study chemistry in university due to it being a prerequisite for my major, I found that having enthusiastic professors who truly love the subject and try their very best to teach it in a fun and understandable manner really helped me enjoy studying chemistry. Fun fact: I loved first-year chemistry so much that I had an additional chemistry subject, which was not required for my major, and had even considered majoring in chemistry!!! I also still find great joy when recalling the days when I used to study chemistry!
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I believe that one of my strongest strengths would be the fact that I, once upon a time, also hated a subject, chemistry, and refused to study it in high school when we were allowed to choose our science subjects, even though I understood that chemistry is a prerequisite for a lot of degrees and would have been very beneficial if I wasn't so headstrong and had given it a second chance. One of the reasons for my deep hatred of chemistry stems from having a bad teacher in high school science, who fully turned me off from studying or even thinking about chemistry. Therefore, I very much understand the importance of a good teacher/tutor, as they have one of the biggest influences on a student's perspective on a subject. Having been through the process of hating chemistry to being forced to study it again after 3 years of not touching it to falling in love with chemistry, I believe that I will have the patience and determination to help a student enjoy studying one of the subjects that I am happy to teach in.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing I can do for a student is to understand where they are positioned in a certain subject and to start teaching from the fundamentals as setting a strong base for the subject is extremely important. Understanding the basics is important due to the fact that as the student progresses in a subject, if the fundamentals were not thoroughly understood, they will struggle to build onto that, which in extreme cases could lead to a student believing they are hopeless at a subject when in reality, they may not be and just need to understand the basics better.
