I think it's a question of what a tutor can BE rather than do. I found in my experience that I always responded to teachers who were enthusiastic and portrayed a genuine care for the learning of the student. In a metaphorical sense, the tutor must think like a student in an empathetic way rather than merely be a one way stream of instruction.
