What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy building a strong connection with a student, and assisting them through a friendship-like relationship, instead of a tutor-student relationship. From my experience, this allows the students to be able to express their thoughts more easily, which in turn helps me understand what I need to focus on, or what concepts I might need to explain again.
In addition, I find it rewarding when students can accurately apply the maths equation or concept, that I have taught them, to practise questions. I view this as a positive reflection of the students' learning and my communication skills.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I believe that I am patient when it comes to tutoring. When a student does not completely understand an idea, I try to explain in the same way again, before trying alternative methods, such as visual demonstrations, or through story-telling.
From my experience, I tend to be over-prepared for each lesson. For example, I might have already prepared 3 different ways, or examples, to explain an idea that could be difficult for the student. This ensures that I am able to answer questions on the spot, as time-consuming lessons might cause students to lose focus.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe that every individual learns things in different ways. In a classroom, each teacher will have their own way of presenting and teaching the content, and this method is most likely to be consistent throughout the year. Whilst this may cater for some students, and help them excel in the particular subject, it might not be suitable for other students. Thus, I believe that it is important for a tutor to provide alternative ways to explain concepts, and to cater the teaching method to each individual. This will help students remember and understand ideas more effectively.
