What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

The opportunity to mentor someone who needs help and watching them develop through your guidance is an unparalleled experience. I have found it truly humbling to see the impact a little help can have in a students life and it was incredibly rewarding. I hope to build my career around being a mentor and furthering those around me in any way I can.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

In my experience, I have found that the social aspect of a mentor/student dynamic is just as crucial to success as that of theoretical knowledge. I feel from my past experience, I have developed very keen social skills under this context and have learned to productively work with a student in a two-directional manner where questions and curiosity are encouraged instead of a one-way flow of information. I feel with this, I could provide great value to any students I am lucky enough to mentor.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I feel the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to create an environment in which the student can feel safe to question what is being discussed and openly communicate lack of understanding and vulnerability. In my opinion, the worst thing a mentor can do is to appear unapproachable. When I was in this position, my mentor was very well-versed in the content, but practiced a very one-sided method to teaching by attempting to invoke self driven problem by withholding information until I found the solution. This seriously discouraged me and has influenced my approach to mentoring.
