What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
"We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology." Carl Sagan
I have a love & passion for understanding how the universe works and never cease to appreciate the fact that the universe behaves in a way that is predictable according to mathematical laws, from this I have a passion not only to know these things for myself but to share such knowledge with others. One of my simple pleasures are those little "ahh NOW I get it" moments when you learn something new and causing those moments in the minds of others
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I found I'm particularly good at coming up with multiple ways or analogies to explain a concept to a student until we find one that the student understands, I customize how I tutor to each individual student. These analogies or explanations often not only connect to knowledge they already have, buy also relates to everyday life, allowing them to also see the value, importance and relevance of what they are learning, thus eliciting deeper engagement and interest from the student in addition to that generated by my own passion and enthusiasm for the subjects I tutor them in.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
A tutor or teacher has to show passion/enthusiasm/excitement for the subject(s) they teach to their students, students learn best in subjects they are interested/excited about, you cannot expect a student to be interested & do well in a subject if even the person teaching them the subject isn't interested in the subject. Enthusiasm and passion from a teacher elicits a similar enthusiasm in their students, this engagement leads to the students having greater excitement and curiosity towards the topic thus leading to greater attention and information retention & therefore more effective learning

had he not made his minor mistake of adding indices when they are meant to instead be subtracted, Xavier would have otherwise given the correct answer for the majority of the questions, his mistakes in regards to indices and fractions appear to be reducing in variety.
for the homework i set for Xavier, he made one minor mistake for the majority of the questions where he would add the indices of the demoninators to that of the numerators rather than subtracting as he was meant to, he realized this mistake early on at the beginning of the session, future sessions will show if he continues to make the same mistake or not.

after clear explanations and worked similar example, Xavier did rather well at most if not all of the questions, I would say his abilities are above what he believes them to be.
working through the questions was admittedly rather slow, Xavier needs to have more confidence in himself and accept that it's ok not to always give the correct answer the first time as that is how we can learn from our mistakes. Xavier will be completing a separate set of index questions/problems from his school worksheet as test/revision of what we worked on tonight, depending on how he goes at those between now and our next session will determine if he needs more work on his indices skills orif we can move on to another topic.

ultimately Xavier showed better understanding of indices than in our previous session, making fewer mistakes and his guesses for what to do next as part of solving/simplifying expressions were more often correct compared to last session.
Xavier only attempted the first question and only wrote down the 2nd question out the the total 12-16 questions I had set him as homework, he admittedly still has difficulties making minor mistakes and also has shown he doesn't understand multiplying, dividing, adding or subtracting fractions or how they relate to indices (particularly negative powers) will be moving onto some more basic fractions work to support his current learning of indices

Xavier and his mother noted that in his previous semester at school he struggled with algebra and geometry in particular and this was reflected in his report card for the semester. Algebra and indices laws will be the focus of our next session.
