What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy helping others reach their potential academically. A number of my friends joked about giving up on Maths Methods due to performing poorly in the first SAC so I spent time going over the content with them during lunch and private study periods because I knew they were intelligent and were just not receiving information in a more personal manner. Working together to improve was a truly rewarding experience for me.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Personally I have struggled at times with mathematic concepts when taught in class and have taken it upon myself to learn these concepts in my own way. Through various methods such as reading alternative textbooks or watching online guides, I have found multiple ways to complete problems that I once struggled with. I believe that my strengths as a tutor are my ability to learn something individually and transfer this knowledge to others who encounter similar issues.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think that a tutor must be able to alter the way they teach to personalise the learning experience for the student as different students will receive and reflect upon information in a unique manner. The tutor should aim to recognise a student's traits and utilise the student's strengths and weaknesses to ensure they are able to improve and thrive as a student. It is also important for a tutor to be able to empthasise with the student to further understand how the tutor should go about their teaching.

Small things like slightly different pronumerals affect the student's ability to recognise how to solve certain problems. Additionally more advanced algebra seems to be difficult at the moment.

The student was able to comfortably recognise most different types of angles and use their relative properties to solve questions. Numerically using algebra was also strong.
Despite the strong use of algebra, there needs to be more emphasis on working out as the student defaults to solving questions mentally rather than setting out and structuring a solution.

The student was able to grasp concepts involving angles quite easily and after a few questions could recognise the various types of angles and how they realted to each other. The student is also quite comfortable with calculations involving angles due to her strong numeracy skills.
Her method for solving questions involving algebraic/variable questions can be improved. At the moment she is heavily reliant on her mental-mathematics skills and default to solving questions in her head rather than setting out the proper working out and process. I will go through the correct order and structure for solving questions next week which should improve her problem solving skills significantly.

She was a lot more comfortable with factors and multiples and demonstrated great ability numerically. She was also able to easily complete algebraic questions when they were displayed in a more easy-to-interpret manner such as grocery shopping.
There is a small issue with abstract problem solving questions which can be improved once she learns to view algebraic related problems as simple mathematics questions by identifying each step as its own process.
