I think it's to guide the student and improve their understanding and engagement at school. From a practical standpoint, a tutor should help a student improve their marks but more importantly, help the student understand the fundamental concepts behind everything. A tutor should teach to a student's strengths and encourage their student to work harder but in a manner which is enjoyable and fun for the student.
