What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I enjoy being able to encourage students to believe in themselves and persist in something they find difficult. It is rewarding to watch their confidence grow over time, and help them develop a growth mindset. In my experience as a volunteer teacher, I taught many troubled students whose behavioural issues appeared deeply rooted in their low self-esteem, which drove them to give up before trying something because they believed their efforts were inherently futile. It was extremely rewarding to help them realise that even the smallest sign of improvement was something to be celebrated.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I think my strengths as a tutor are my ability to relate to students and not only explain concepts clearly to them, but encourage improvement by helping them believe in themselves, celebrate their efforts, and value the process over the results. In my experience, I was able to eventually develop a friendship and mentorship with each of my students, instilling confidence and growth mindsets in each of them, such that they were motivated to improve on their own.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are increasing their confidence, encouraging them to take initiative in their study, and enjoy the process of learning. In my experience as a receiver of tutoring (for maths) and a teacher, I found that while explaining concepts well is extremely important, the most effective way to stimulate progress is to help students enjoy the subject and believe they are capable of improving, such that they are motivated to take action outside of the classroom to improve themselves.
