What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Tutoring is a pleasure for me as I enjoy imparting information onto others and seeing them understand and be able to apply what has been taught independently. Tutoring is also an enjoyable puzzle where you are able to communicate with the student to discern which gears in their understanding aren't turning in the right way. The moment when you use a helpful analogy or explain it in just the right way such that the student can answer the question correctly on their own is very intrinsically rewarding to me.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My greatest strength as a tutor is the fact that I am patient and have an open mind. I also like to give the people I teach to have the freedom to make their own choices rather than claiming to know what is right. For example, if I am reading through work that someone has written and I find something that I think does not work well, I will inform them of why I think it is not good and how they might want to change it. I will then allow them to decide whether they will take my advice.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to offer them quality information and direct feedback on their work and areas of struggle. Additionally, a tutor should be humble such that they do not impose their own ideas onto a student, but rather walk alongside the student's journey of learning. This helps to establish a strong connection between the tutor and student to help in more effective communication and learning as well as directs learning to focus on the more nuanced points where the student struggles, rather than simply teaching broadly like a textbook.
