What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I enjoy helping the student find interest in the subject/concept (especially with science subjects). To be able to bring them from just seeing information, to go deeper and seeing insights that they have not seen before, to even finding inspiration- to see the wonder and awe in the concept where possible. It requires a lot of work from my end but it would help sustain the students interest even after my tutoring. This has been my experience in university. I would often meet with lecturers after classes to discuss concepts further, to find these insights. This helped me score highly in class.

My Strengths as Tutor πŸ’ͺ

Being able to comprehend concepts well enough, that I can explain it in a simpler way. This is because I myself grapple with the concept first before teaching it. This has been my experience with a student I had. I was tutoring for a conceptually difficult subject (Engineering thermodynamics), and my student found that she could understand concepts when I was explaining them to her than when she was learning in class. The student I tutored was very happy with my help, she offered to pay me more. (I was new to tutoring, so I charged her half price, but she offered to pay me the full price)

Most important things I can do for a student πŸ…

To foster a good tutor-student relationship first. Having this as the first form of connection will help know the students character and personality (and vice versa) which then will help the tutor know the best way to teach. I believe this relationship is necessary for effective teaching. I learnt most and learnt best from the lecturers with whom I had established this kind of relationship with.
