I am a visual learning and I benefit from watching someone do a problem then trying it myself, as this is how I learn best I am able to easily apply this method to someone I tutor. This ensures they are not just understanding what they learnt but are able to apply it to a range of problems. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is understand how they learn and ensure the student feels comfortable. A tutor should be the person a student can be open with if they don't understand something without feeling embarrassed or dumb.
