What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
The way I learn best is by asking questions to my teachers and peers. Having these one-on-one conversations benefits me greatly so I know how valuable tutoring can be for a studentβs development. Helping other people succeed is something that has always given me great satisfaction, and so the aspect of tutoring that I expect to enjoy the most is seeing the development of the student and knowing that I played a key part in their growth. I hope to inspire students to become interested in subjects like economics and maths, subjects that shaped my tertiary education choices.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
I always try to understand the reasons behind why I am learning content. I try to understand its applications to the real world, or how it builds on to higher level education. This allows me to make learning feel more tangible which is essential for a goal driven person like me. Understanding why I am learning something makes me curious to learn, interested in the content, and therefore I'm motivated to study more. I'll help my students understand why they are learning something whilst teaching them the content. In my opinion, this is key to igniting curiosity and motivating a student.
Most important things I can do for a student π
Tutors must prepare for teaching prior to the session. Briefly revising a topic that the tutor may have not covered in a couple of years will allow the tutor to spend more quality teaching time with the student.
A tutor must also be responsive. If a student is contacting their tutor with a question, even if its outside of the specified teaching time, a good tutor will be sure to respond promptly.
Being supportive is also essential as a tutor. Making sure the student knows you are happy for them when they receive a good grade is key for their confidence and motivation.
