What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
One thing that I love is the fact that I can share my enthusiasm for maths with other people. I can bring my own strategies into this type of workplace. This is what I find very exciting about tutoring.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I think one of the abilities that I completely trust myself with is responsibility, I ponder a few times before deciding on a task but when I do make a decision, I will with my entire ability be responsible.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
- Be constantly available( atleast via email) to clear doubts. I was at this stage with my tutors as well, I was well supported by my connection with my tutors. Therefore I do recognize the need for tutors to connect with the students.
- Have genuine care for the students. I think its really important for tutors to treat their work as something very crucial for the development of students. What I mean is tutors should not only treat tutoring as a job but also go beyond that and have genuine care for the students to do well.

Matthew really struggles with the CAS. This I believe did affect this recent test performance. He need to crush the basics, especially stuff like solve, simplify, graph and defining variables.
He managed to do most of the exam questions. He is initially stumped by the question, but when I give him a clue he can finish the rest.

Instead of listening just to his teacher and doing questions. I want him to do this: read the textbook thoroughly and do 2 or 3 practice questions in each section(or until he gets it). Then we can get to further questions.
I believe Matthew is learning how doable methods is. He's adapting slowly, which is fine since he is still in year 10.

I wouldn't say today was one of the better sessions. Matthew is making a lot of careless mistakes(none of them were conceptual errors). Making one or two mistakes here and there is not an issue, however most the questions he did today, he did get wrong. I want him to work on his accuracy(doing more textbook questions).
It's great that he managed to get a practice SAC. Helpful stuff.

He is starting to struggle with the questions, which is expected. SACs are designed to be hard. We need more of these SACs so he can get used to the questions.
