What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I think the aspect of tutoring that I enjoy the most would be the ability to help students gain a deeper understanding of subjects they have previously struggled with or experienced difficulty in catching up to. Depending on the student, trying to understand a new topic could be hard because it may not "make sense" to them right from the beginning, and within the timeframe that this thought is maintained, it can make students believe that they truly are "unable" to understand. When I can make them believe otherwise, that they can definitely overcome the "obstacle", I feel it is most rewarding.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I believe my strength is in breaking down challenging concepts into more processable bits for my students. From my short informal tutoring experience, I have made personal development plans for each one of my students and adjusted them accordingly to their personalities and skills. For instance, when I tutored a student on IGCSE Accounting, she seemed to struggle with preparing cash flows. To help build her confidence and understanding, I broke it down into smaller steps and compared the actions to concepts she was more familiar with: a game she liked. She was able to overcome it later on.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student, besides clarifying concepts, is to build their confidence and encourage critical thinking. From my short informal tutoring experience, I found that students can sometimes hyperfocus on guidelines/given examples, so much so that they believe there is no alternate approach to the problem. For instance, if a student becomes too rigid on 1 economic theory, they may be blindsided with other theories and applications. It is the tutor's job to guide them to think of the subject more deeply and explore "hidden" alternate views.
