What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy working with kids and I will be continuing that when I finish university (to become an OT). I also love watching the person finally understand what they are learning, no matter how many times I need to explain it.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I have patience, so I don't mind explaining something multiple times. I also love it when the student asks me questions, even for the smallest things. I love sharing my knowledge.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Helping them complete their work is part of the job. However, the most important thing is making sure students are relaxed. If they are getting overwhelmed they shouldn't be pushed because then it'll make them feel like they can't do it. So tackling their weaknesses at a realistic pace will help them not feel pressured to understand straight away. Then when they realise they can do it they relax because they know it's the same thing their teacher is teaching them but they have been explained it in a different way that helped them understand.

Shernae is able to recognise which congruency rules apply to triangles and angle rules that help solve for unknowns in a parallelogram. After being reminded what the Area of a Circle formula was, Shernae was able to calculate it for circles that had radius' provided.
Be careful when you are translating shapes. You don't want to be rotating them. So it should look exactly like the original (i.e: same orientation) but be moved according to the instructions. Make sure when you are calculating the area of a circle, if a diameter is provided you need to divide by 2.
Claudia remembers how to calculate the mean, median and mode. She can also figure out the pattern of an equation using a table to get the correct y-values.

When calculating the IQR if it results with decimals just be careful with the subtracting.

Shernae is able to construct a tree diagram (see improvement 2), but sometimes has difficulty annotating the branches. She is able to calculate probabilities by counting outcomes; however, she needs to become comfortable with the working out she needs to show instead (see improvement 1)
Make sure when you are calculating probabilities you multiply across branches and add going down the branches. Also make sure when you're constructing tree diagrams you make them in a way that is going to be easy for your marker to understand (TIP: I like to go in order of how the question reads, for example, if the first thing mentioned is heads/tails that is what will be on the first branch then the next option will be on the following branch - and obviously repeat this for how many turns it requires).

Claudia can accurately apply the rise/run formula to calculate a gradient of a linear equation. She can also determine the IQR from a list of numbers (with various positives and negatives). Claudia also remembers how to rearrange formulas when given a mean and some scores that were used to help find the mean (and then you have to find the missing score)
Make sure you cross out one number from each side at a time so you don't make a mistake with the median calculation.
