I believe the most important thing a tutor can offer a child is patience. Impatience does not create a suitable learning environment. Qualities like these can prevent a child from wanting to learn, they may negatively associate with the subject, putting them further behind. Every child can succeed, given enough time. I have strengths as coach that…

Psychology Tutor Burton, SA
In my opinion, as a tutor, it is very important to cherish the students as they progressed, acknowledging their work and encourage them to try to do with their full potential. Besides, it is important to have an understanding of their best way of learning, and encourage them to question in their learning. Furthermore, awareness of their wellbeing…

Inside SmithfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Sam worked on five-digit place value and expanded notation, then practised addition and subtraction with three-digit numbers through worded problems.

Year 8 student Liam revised lines and angles—including exterior angles of triangles—and solved practice geometry questions before being introduced to congruence rules for triangles.

For Year 10, Ava focused on solving quadratic equations by factorising and finding roots, as well as simplifying quadratics using the difference of squares formula.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12, leaving research assignments until the last minute meant one student had little time to select articles or polish work; as a tutor noted, "the opportunity to absorb learning is limited." Relying on session time rather than independent preparation also slowed progress in English.

In Year 10 Science, forgetting materials (like textbooks and test papers) made it impossible to review key topics together.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student often skipped practicing unfamiliar multiplication tables for homework—leading to gaps when tackling worded problems.

When written steps were skipped in Year 8 algebra, sign errors crept in unnoticed.

Recent Achievements

A Smithfield tutor noticed Chelsea, a Year 10 student, now regularly asks for clarification on complex equations instead of staying silent when stuck—a big shift from her earlier sessions where she hesitated to speak up.

Meanwhile, Caitlin in Year 9 has started tackling challenging geometry problems independently and even requested extra variations to practice after mastering the basics.

In a recent primary session, one younger student who used to guess at multi-digit addition is now verbalising each step out loud and checking their own work before moving on.

Last week, Caitlin attempted all elimination method questions solo and finished them correctly.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Playford Civic Centre Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Blakeview Primary School.
