Biology Tutor Upper Ferntree Gully, VIC
A tutor should understand a student's struggle and achievements, and be able to bring out the fun in studying to help them in their academic struggles. I encourage and motivate students to excel and set a foundation for future studies, as well as providing an entertaining and educational environment suitable for each student. As a current student…

A good tutor not only finds the best teaching method to suit the learning preferences of their student, but are also able to increase their student's confidence and mindset, helping them be both physically and mentally prepared for assessments. I am very proactive with answering questions and concerns. In the past, my student was 2 years behind on…

Biology Tutor Boronia, VIC
Teaching math or English?! students can get that information from books, the internet, online courses and so many other ways. But things that a crafty and caring tutor would do is to support, understand, and talk, in one word, be there for the student. Being a friend and caring about every student, realising their talent and the ways they…

Biology Tutor Ferntree Gully, VIC
I aim to set up a relaxed environment with the students so that students feel comfortable and focused working on subjects. Understanding the level the student is at, so that they are able to improve their skills at a suitable pace is essential. Next, providing worksheets, exams and textbooks so that they can continue improving by themselves,…

Biology Tutor Bayswater, VIC
I believe it is important for a biology tutor to always take time to properly understand problems that a student could be having with whatever they are trying to understand and consider the best ways to help the student to understand the question in a way that works well with the student's learning. I am patient and willing to take the time to…

Biology Tutor Knoxfield, VIC
The most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to not just tell a student the answers for everything, but to teach them how to solve it for themselves, and to help them gain the skills to learn and understand on their own, so even if I stop teaching them, they will be stronger on their own. I believe my strengths lie within the…

Inside SassafrasTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Daniel worked on multiplying larger numbers and times tables for speed, tackled area and perimeter using diagrams, and practiced simplifying fractions.

In Year 8, Tanya focused on identifying the main idea in comprehension texts and began writing Tanka poetry, while also exploring persuasive language techniques through brainstorming activities.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Vien refined essay planning by developing arguments for a practice English SAC and practiced making written responses more concise.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 mathematics, one student avoided harder algebra questions and repeatedly focused on familiar topics; as noted, "sometimes tries to avoid harder tasks and prioritises known topics," which slowed progress with new concepts.

In Year 11 English, another student's essay responses lacked original examples and critical thinking—she needed more time "to come up with a range of different and unique examples for each essay."

A senior student preparing for VCE struggled to recall older content under test conditions, making it difficult to apply the right techniques in complex exam questions. Forgotten methods resurfaced during revision sessions, creating last-minute stress before assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Sassafras tutor noticed that a Year 3 student, Tanya, who was initially shy about reading aloud, now volunteers to do so and is more willing to talk through her thinking when answering questions.

In Year 8 maths, Daniel used to hesitate on his times tables even when correct, but now works through multi-digit multiplication problems with much less prompting and can explain where he gets stuck instead of guessing.

Meanwhile, in VCE English, Tasia has started setting clearer goals for herself during essay planning and independently restructured her paragraphs for clarity by the end of the session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Monbulk Reading Room—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sassafras Primary School.
