Good tutor is not someone that can easily give good and best answer to the student. Good teacher is someone who explain logic and ideas behind the problem. Good teacher is someone who helps the student to generate ideas and polish the quality of the student. Einstein famous proverb tells us that " Make things as simple as possible, but not…

Inside NutfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Aryan practised solving simultaneous equations and applied index laws, including negative and rational indices.

In Year 10, Michael worked on probability concepts such as conditional probability, discrete random variables, and binomial distribution using real-life data examples.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Aditi focused on simplifying surd operations, then moved on to applying these skills to calculate the area of rectangles.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student used the CAS calculator to input equations in integration, but as noted, "separating characters on the CAS calculator caused incorrect answers," showing over-reliance on technology led to avoidable errors.

In Year 10, a student prepared for tests well yet lost confidence when encountering similar problems under time pressure—one tutor wrote that knowledge was present but "just wasn't expressed" during assessment.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student often forgot to bring class materials, making it harder to engage fully in creative writing tasks. Forgotten work meant stories sometimes lacked detail or jumped between topics unexpectedly.

Recent Achievements

A Nutfield tutor recently saw a Year 12 student who used to freeze up when tackling simultaneous equations now break the process into steps independently, choosing the most efficient method without prompting.

In a Year 9 session, one student—who previously guessed at trigonometry questions—started asking for help with sine and cosine problems instead of guessing, which led her to solve right-angled triangle side lengths correctly for the first time.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who was often hesitant about new maths concepts listened closely this week and completed an assignment on improper fractions with much less need for reassurance than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mernda Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Arthurs Creek Primary School.
