A tutor is there both to teach content and to improve a student's study habits. Seeking advice from teachers, peers, and my past tutor, I have developed helpful study skills and I recognise inefficient habits. I have gained an appreciation for tuning study practices to the individual for optimal results. Learning to work with my ADHD has…

I think the most important things a biology tutor can do for a student are: Build Confidence: Helping students believe in their abilities is crucial. A tutor should encourage them, celebrate their progress, and show them that challenges can be overcome with effort and persistence. Tailor Learning: Every student learns differently, so it’s…

I think some of the most important things that a biology tutor can do for a student is obviously, being able to lift their grades as well as instilling more self-confidence in them when tackling harder questions. Another more important thing is being able to act as a mentor to the student, and relay any important information that would be…

Not only teaching content, but doing it in a clear and engaging manner is important so the student is able to learn effectively. I also believe helping the student feel comfortable is also a priority as it helps them to freely ask questions. As a biology tutor, I'm willing to answer general study questions students may have as I think this would…

The most important thing that a biology tutor can do for students is to listen, which helps us understand their needs and enables us to help them effectively. I also think preparation on a tutor's part is a very important part of the relationship with a student. I would consider myself to be a great listener, which comes in handy in tutoring and I…

An important factor for a biology tutor is for them to understand that people learn at different paces. Especially if they are quite troubled it is vital that a tutor is understanding, patient, and able to adapt their teaching style when needed. I ensure that I am able to teach step by step, so that there is no confusion and it shows the person I…

For the student to be able to see me as someone he/she can rely upon. I say this because I was not very good at mathematics but when I had a biology tutor at the start of year 8, she was always friendly and made it very easy to talk to her. It was because of her that I now want to be a tutor, she instilled disciplines which I am proud of today,…

It's important for a biology tutor to help a student get the correct answer, but more importantly it is critical that the student understands the concept behind which the answer was based. It is important for a tutor to be able to communicate with the individual in the way which is best suited for the student so that they can efficiently grasp the…

I think the most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to teach the student how to approach problems and questions on their own, such that they are not dependent on anyone when they encounter a difficult problem in the future. For example, to teach them how to look at a problem in many different ways, to reverse the problem and…

Being a source of advice and support in a student's scholarly journey. I am approachable and non-judgemental so students can ask me for help on school topics that they may not want to ask their teachers or parents due to anxiety. I use learning styles that complement the student I am teaching, as opposed to a "one size fits all"…

Local Reviews

I just wanted to thank the EzyMath team. Jayesh has done an incredible job in tutoring Shona, her marks have gone from a fail to the mid 80s but not just that, its her understanding of the core concepts that has improved dramatically. Shona is at a point now where she is prepared for her HSC, she has a study schedule in place and feels confident about the syllabus.

Inside Middle DuralTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 Daniel explored the interior angles of quadrilaterals using diagrams and practiced setting out algebraic working clearly.

Year 8 Lukas focused on converting word problems into algebraic expressions and used Pythagoras' Theorem to solve for unknown sides in right-angled triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student tackled geometry problems involving surface area and volume of solids, applying logical strategies to streamline calculations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student left a significant portion of his school maths work unmarked, making it difficult to identify where help was most needed. As a tutor noted, "he had some difficulties accepting that he would need to mark his work."

In Year 9, another student tended to group calculation steps in his head during algebra and geometry tasks, leading to repeated errors—"tempted to try to calculate in his head," which meant mistakes weren't spotted until much later.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner struggled with short division because key terms and processes weren't consistently recorded in working, leaving gaps when reviewing for assessments.

Recent Achievements

A Middle Dural tutoring session saw Tom, a Year 10 student, tackle multi-part algebra questions with noticeably more independence—he was able to interpret graphs and connect them back to algebraic expressions after struggling to make those links last term.

Will in Year 7, who used to get stuck on number patterns, is now confidently creating his own rules for growing sequences by analysing differences between terms.

Meanwhile, Lukas from Year 8 no longer hesitates when faced with triangle problems; he now applies properties of different triangles and finds interior angles without prompting, even explaining his reasoning as he works through each step.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Galston Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Middle Dural Public School.
