Understand where they are at in terms of their learning abilities, providing ways for the student to best understand the material and showing them they can achieve good grades by applying themselves and trusting me to help them achieve it. Patience and understanding each student has a different way on taking in information and then processing it…

Teaching problem solving skills to students. The reason, is that problem solving skills could be useful not only to subjects outside of mathematics. Problem solving skills could be very useful for studying a degree in engineering and I know this because I am studying engineering at a university. My biggest strength is being able to break a problem…

Connection. I don't just tutor the students but; hopefully, the students can see me as a role model and can approach me with comfort and ease. without that rapport you can not make that essential connection you need as a tutor. Passion. I am very passionate about my subject and I try transferring this to my students. Often mathematics can get…

Listen to their struggling points and help them step by step to figure out what they're doing wrong and give them some confidence for how to proceed when they're by themselves. Sometimes all that's required is being walked through how to approach and solve a problem. Additionally, giving them resources (or helping them make their own) like notes…

One of the most Important things a tutor can do for a student is help them uncover their true potential. In most cases, students are seeking tutoring because they are not sure that they will achieve the grades they require in their summative assessments. I believe that most students can learn, and learn to pass assessments. I have always believed it is our role to assist student to get to their goals. Sometime this means individualized learning. I…

Education is incredibly important. I believe that a tutor who understands and helps their client will produce the best results. A student who feels incorporated and integral to the learning experience will learn much faster than one who feels removed. I am patient and understanding. I can move through information fast or slow down. I am…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make them feel like they are being spoken with, not spoken to. They need this so they can feel included in the discussion of learning, and not like they are being belittled for not knowing as much. I am very good at learning the best way to help someone and am able to find that way and show…

I believe that tutors are able to give a student more focus than a teacher can in a class room. There are many students who are unable to learn when teachers give generalised explanations of concepts to an entire class. I believe that a tutor is able to give differing perspectives and more focus to a singular student. I think my greatest strength…

Inside Meadow SpringsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Lexie practised strategies and patterns in times tables to boost recall, while a Year 7 student focused on algebra basics such as negative numbers and interpreting linear graphs.

Meanwhile, Cruz in Year 4 worked through multiplication of three-digit numbers by one-digit numbers, following the correct step-by-step process using written methods.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student repeatedly avoided writing out working in subtraction and addition tasks, which made it harder to catch simple errors—"would not use 'show working'/layout," a tutor observed.

In Year 9 maths, one student relied heavily on checking answers with a calculator but skipped laying out steps when solving equations, especially with negatives.

Homework was sometimes incomplete or forgotten across both levels, leading to less progress in mastering tables and mental arithmetic.

Moments of distraction during lessons meant time was spent redirecting focus rather than building skills; frustration showed most when division became challenging late in the session.

Recent Achievements

One Meadow Springs tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who had struggled to ask questions in the past—this week, he jumped in with lots of relevant questions about solving equations and showed he understood principles they'd been working on.

In Year 7 maths, another student who usually hesitated with multiplication managed to set out expanded multiplication on her own for the first time.

Meanwhile, a younger primary learner surprised her tutor by remembering patterns from last week's nine times tables and confidently applied them to new problems without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lakelands Library and Community Centre—or at your child's school (with permission), like Meadow Springs Primary School.
