The most important aspects of tutoring, in my perspective, involve prioritizing students' academic success, ensuring they are happy and engaged in the learning process, and maintaining a safe and supportive environment. These pillars—academic progress, enthusiasm for learning, and student well-being—are the cornerstones of effective and…

Being a mentor, not just as an academic tutor, but being able to easily understand and empathise with the different situations a student may be in, and ways to overcome the hardships they may face both academically and personally. Tutors should also be able to explain and answer questions about anything within a subject and be able to provide…

It is highly important for a tutor to listen and more specifically identify gaps and concerns that a student is having in a particular area. I believe that my strengths are that I have developed strong communication skills over the course of my employment and my university studies. I studied Board English at highschool and maintained high grades…

Children would prefer a friendly environment where they can feel comfortable enough to ask questions and let the tutor know that they don't understanding anything. Students should be able to discuss thing with the tutor so that they can grasp the knowledge in the manner they want. I am very confident and I have a lots of patience when children…

I think that a tutor should help foster understanding of difficult concepts so that the student is able to do the work themselves, rather than doing the work for them. Additionally, going over the work with them, and showing them how they can improve is important. Ensuring that they understand ways they can get better helps more than telling them,…

To be able to mould and modify a lesson plan in accordance to what the student's need. As a tutor, I believe the most important thing I can do to help a student is build their confidence. It is imperative that I work as a support system to instil a sense of motivation and self-confidence in my students. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them recognise the improvements and progress they are making. From a psychological perspective intrinsic motivation is important but extrinsic validation is equally so in a learning environment. When small improvements are pointed out and celebrated it is not only a mindset shift but…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is being able to teach the student skills that can help them to utilise those skills not only in that particular topic but throughout their subjects. For example, showing a student to skim read to help them not only in English but in other subjects such as Modern History, Geography, Physics…

The most important thing as a tutor is to be there for your student, not only academically but mentally and emotionally as well. Inside KurabyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7, Ella focused on decimal addition and subtraction as well as practicing both 2 x 2 digit and 3 x 2 digit multiplication; meanwhile, Year 8, Marcus worked through order of operations in word problems and solved volume questions involving measurement conversions.

In senior Biology, Year 11 student Lily reviewed karyotype interpretation and discussed the roles of different RNAs in protein synthesis alongside constructing energy flow diagrams for ecosystems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's maths work showed a tendency to skip setting out full working for complex equations, making it difficult to catch errors—"his thinking for these questions was correct, but layout needs work."

In Year 11 Biology, another student did not spend enough time reading studies in detail before analysis, which slowed progress on the research investigation.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner often guessed answers rather than using drawings or calculations when tackling multiplication and word problems.

In each case, rushed or incomplete processes led to confusion or repeated mistakes during practice and revision.

Recent Achievements

A Kuraby tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to avoid exam-style biology questions now confidently summarising the process of nondisjunction in her own words when prompted, showing real ownership of complex genetics content.

In Year 8 maths, another student who previously struggled with setting out calculations is now consistently writing complete expressions for worded problems and double-checking unit conversions independently.

Meanwhile, a younger learner who would guess times tables answers has begun using anchor facts and visual patterns to solve unfamiliar multiplication questions, choosing strategies herself without prompting from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Logan North Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kuraby State School.
