The most important things an english tutor can do for a student are to offer encouragement, build trust and provide clear explanations. It is essential that a safe space is created for the student to ask questions and make mistakes. This will ultimately allow students to effectively engage with the material provided by taking risks with their…

We have only had two lessons, but I have been very happy with Mia's communication, teaching style, and her ability to engage with my daughter. She has a warm, friendly approach that helps make maths more fun. My daughter really enjoys working with Mia.

Inside Erina HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Rudy focused on long division, working through word problems and using a helpful mnemonic to remember the steps.

In Year 7, Zac practiced all four operations with fractions—including mixed and improper forms—and learned how to simplify equations involving fractions.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Yillen explored Pythagoras' Theorem in right-angled triangles and applied it to real-life questions, also revisiting perimeter and area calculations as part of exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

During recent lessons with a Year 11 student preparing for HSC maths, confidence dips were evident across various topics; one tutor noted, "she needed reassurance on almost every new type of question."

In Year 8 algebra, skipping written steps and messy working led to confusion—"her answers were scattered over the page, making errors hard to catch."

For a Year 6 learner tackling division and fractions, avoiding written working and trying to solve problems mentally resulted in repeated miscalculations.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student often forgot homework and left notes at school, limiting revision time before assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Erina Heights tutoring session saw a Year 10 student, Olivia, move from needing frequent reminders about area formulas to confidently writing out and substituting values on her own, even tackling more complex shapes with minimal help.

In Year 8, Zac, who was initially hesitant to speak up or attempt challenging questions alone, has started explaining his reasoning during problem solving and now volunteers answers before being prompted.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student named Lilly, who previously lost focus easily and needed step-by-step guidance for decimals and fractions, recently stopped her tutor from intervening so she could independently solve conversion problems between the two.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Erina Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Erina Heights Public School.
