Inside ConderTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Imogen focused on reading fluency and worked through strategies for sounding out unfamiliar words.

In Year 9, Hannah tackled solving simultaneous equations using substitution as well as factorising and expanding binomials to simplify algebraic expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Liam reviewed quadratic equations—applying both the quadratic formula and factorising techniques—and practised interpreting and sketching quadratic graphs.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student had not completed any extra revision for an upcoming exam, so independent study habits remain a challenge.

In Year 12, lesson preparation and planning before sessions was inconsistent—"we still need to get better at planning what we will cover in sessions beforehand," one tutor observed, which left some gaps in targeted learning.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student's working was sometimes messy during word problems, making it hard to track errors and solutions.

For a younger learner in Year 3, homework was often incomplete or done incorrectly until reviewed together, causing confusion when new concepts built on those tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Conder recently saw a Year 10 student, previously hesitant to ask questions, begin confidently telling the tutor when explanations didn't make sense—leading to real breakthroughs with simultaneous equations.

In a Year 11 session, a student who once struggled with structuring essays was able to write a robust introduction independently and now clearly understands what makes an effective opening.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who used to guess at addition problems now draws objects on paper to work them out and eagerly explains their thinking before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Tuggeranong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Clare of Assisi Primary School.
