Geography Tutor Ipswich, QLD
The most important thing a tutor can give to his/her student is confidence. The confidence to know that whatever the problem is. There is no point trying to avoid it when if you work hard enough and practice enough with the right help, you will be able to solve problems on your own. Eventually the student does not need the tutor as a crutch if the…

Geography Tutor Westlake, QLD
Being able to explain concepts well to a student is arguably the most important thing. The best tutors are those who can explain and teach challenging ideas with relative ease in a short period of time because they have such good interpersonal skills. I believe my greatest strength is personal interaction with the student, and the ability to…

Inside Collingwood ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Summer focused on BODMAS with an emphasis on how brackets change the order of operations, and explored spatial patterns through targeted questions from her maths book.

In Year 8, Emily tackled ratios, rates, gradients and straight lines, including conversions between fractions, decimals and percentages.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Max worked on applying index laws in algebra as well as finding the highest common factor (HCF) and lowest common multiple (LCM) using real examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's tendency to skip double-checking spelling and handwriting in English led to repeated errors, as one tutor noted, "small mistakes around spelling and handwriting kept recurring."

In Year 11 maths, a student hesitated to answer independently, often relying on confirmation rather than trusting their own process.

For a Year 3 reader, frustration arose when unfamiliar words were replaced with similar ones instead of being decoded—writing the word while saying it aloud sometimes helped regain focus.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student struggled to maintain attention during maths explanations, which meant concepts had to be retaught before any progress was made.

Recent Achievements

A Collingwood Park tutor noticed that one high school student, who previously found poetry analysis daunting, was able to clearly identify which poetic techniques she understood and pinpoint those needing more work—showing real self-awareness that hadn't been there before.

Another secondary student who struggled with applying the Pythagorean theorem managed to complete several related problems independently by the end of the session.

In a younger group, Zebediah used to guess at unfamiliar words but now patiently sounds them out and openly points out which ones he doesn't know, helping direct each lesson's focus.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Redbank Plaza Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Collingwood Park State School.
