I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is be patient. If they are struggling to understand a subject, they are going to get more frustrated the longer it takes for them to grasp. I believe that it is exacerbated by the class moving on to another topic before the student is ready, and it is our job to work with them…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to change their perception of what their learning to not only just a task, but rather a hobby. I am an outgoing person, so I would have no issue in talking to the client. I am also renowned for being patient when I help people, which I believe is a necessity in…

Being able to listen and understand a student's struggle with learning can help guide a tutor in creating an effective lesson plan which will, in turn, produce a successful outcome. My strengths include: - my passion for wanting to help others - my highly…

To be flexible in terms the needs of the student. The student is the most important entity in the Tutor-Student dynamic and his/her understanding of the subject being taught is a key criteria to the fruitful outcomes of the teaching activity. From my own experience, I have had tutors that are extremely patient and allow the student time to absorb…

Truly the most important thing any tutor can do for a student is to help create and cultivate a growth mindset. By doing this, students become lifelong, innovative learners. This certainly occurs in the classroom, but teachers are expected to do this to upwards of 20+ children. Tutors are important to students because they assist in expanding…

Tutoring is a noble occupation. My experience with the previous tutoring has taught me many things that can be really important for a student. Not every child is able to cope with his/her studies and routine. Being a student of Psychology, I prefer encouraging and motivating them to do better each day. Some students tend to trigger their fear of…

As a tutor it's my entire responsibility to know everything about a subject and deliver high quality teaching to my students. So preparation is very important! A tutor needs to make learning sounds interesting and encourage the students to overcome the challenges. The most important thing the tutor could do is to support the students to build…

Shubh tutored my son Travis in Term 4 for maths. Travis is in Year 7. We saw a remarkable improvement in Travis' overall attitude to school, not just in maths and we beleive Shubh played a big part in this. Thank you Shubh

Inside CarraraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Fractions worked on recognising and comparing fractions, as well as finding a fraction of a whole number using practical examples.

In Year 11, Hamiltonian path and cycle problems were tackled along with Euler paths and circuits, focusing on understanding how to identify these in various types of networks.

Year 12 student covered Time Series Analysis, including mean-smoothing techniques and interpreting trends in real data sets for Unit 4 assessment preparation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing for Economics struggled to finish assignment calculations and analysis, leaving sections incomplete. As one tutor observed, "she needs to go through the sources, complete analysis and the rest of the essay," which left her argument unsupported in drafts.

In Year 9 Mathematics, a student's messy handwriting and skipped mathematical signs ("+" or "–") made it hard to follow working out—mistakes weren't easily caught on review sheets.

Meanwhile, a senior student tackling trigonometry hesitated to attempt harder questions without notes, slowing recall during timed practice. The unfinished work meant gaps lingered when new material was introduced.

Recent Achievements

A Carrara tutoring session saw one Year 11 student make a big leap in maths, moving from a 3/14 to an 11/14 on her latest exam after consistently recalling and applying tricky theory that used to trip her up.

In another high school example, a tutor noted how Sherisse now voices her questions openly during lessons instead of staying silent when confused—she's also begun organising her notes and homework much more methodically.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously hesitated with two-digit multiplication can now solve these problems quickly and accurately, even tackling long division independently by the end of the lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Helensvale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Emmanuel College.
