Making sure the Student uses the skills they have been recently taught and to put it into practice. Otherwise knowledge crumbles and cannot be built upon. Create a safe and effective space for them to learn and grow academically and socially. I think both teachers and tutors can make a significant difference in young students lives and it’s important to create a safe learning space where they feel they can be their best selves and not be afraid to make mistakes in order to learn. Finding new ways…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and help them become independent, capable learners. Rather than simply giving answers, a good tutor teaches students how to think critically, ask questions, and work through challenges on their own. It’s about creating a space where they feel safe to…

The most important thing a tutor does is motivates the student and sets in them good habits and a mindset of being able to accomplish things they thought they can’t. I have good communication skills and i understand the content well. I am able to relate to students and teach using different methods to classrooms by teaching abstract concepts…

A tutor, more than simply teach content, should be able to make their subject enjoyable, open and motivational for students. A successful tutor is one whose influence goes beyond the tutoring center, and drives greater change in the students academic and personal life. My own experiences with a great math tutor in high school supplement this view.…

Recognise HOW a student actually learns. One of the hardest things a student has to learn is what method of studying actually suits them and once you find that the rest seems to fall in place. Devoting time and resources to your students to improve in their core weaknesses and not being afraid to reteach the most basic skills should also be common…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them grow on a daily basis. An important characteristic to take on as a tutor is to listen and communicate effectively with the student in order to help teach material in a way that helps them understand. Building strong relationships with students is something a tutor can do for a…

Dania our tutor is a blessing! My daughter is able to open up to Dania and has managed to engage conversations/ relationship/ trust and so just after a few lessons she's now able to have a better understanding of maths concepts where as before she was really struggling to comprehend it. Although my daughter still has much more to learn I'm confident that Dania will be able to take her to the next level.

Inside CamdenTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Chloe focused on addition and subtraction strategies as well as understanding decimal point questions, often using number patterns to reinforce concepts.

For Year 8, Jayden reviewed solving equations with variables on both sides and tackled worded problems involving algebraic expressions.

In Year 11, Sam concentrated on integration skills, specifically indefinite integrals and finding the area under curves.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, one student struggled with layout in geometry revision—notes were "hard to follow" and diagrams often left unfinished, making it difficult to check working during test prep.

In Year 10 algebra, another avoided writing out steps for factorisation, leading to repeated errors that "weren't obvious until the answer didn't match."

A senior (Year 12) student skipped assigned practice on integration rules and did not complete a required summary sheet; this led to confusion when tackling unfamiliar curve-sketching questions under time pressure.

Missed homework or incomplete exercises made it harder for each to consolidate their understanding before assessments.

Recent Achievements

A Camden tutor recently noticed a Year 8 student who used to get stuck on ratios now independently chooses which method to apply, especially with worded problems.

In Year 10, one student who previously hesitated to ask for help is now openly checking her algebra steps during sessions and double-checking equations before moving on.

Meanwhile, a primary schooler has started volunteering answers when working through decimals—she'd often stay quiet in earlier lessons but now explains her thinking out loud. Last session, she finished all ten decimal conversion questions without any errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Camden Council Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Paul's Catholic Primary School.
