It is most important that a tutor can deepen a students understanding of a topic as well as introducing tips and shortcuts that help the student achieve positive results in the easiest manner. My strengths as a tutor are that i am a quick thinker and strong in problem solving so i am able to educate students in an efficient manner while also…

I think the most important things for a tutor to do is to make sure the student understands how to do the question, and not just give them the answer or formula. It is essential for them to utilise all the skills and I want to foster the ability to identify which methods are required for each question. I like to teach in fun ways so hopefully that…

Be patient in explaining the same concepts a number of times. Do their jobs honestly and make sure that the student understands the core fundamentals and not just the shortcuts. Impart discipline. I believe that I am a very calm individual. It doesn't matter if a person asks me the same questions over and over again. I would still respond with the…

understand where they currently stand. We can only move forward once we are sure that their foundations are clear. I can help students understand the same concept in a variety of ways. So that even if they can't really process one method, they're not stuck in their learning journey. I also believe my friendly nature can help speed up their…

In my perspective the best thing the tutor can do for the student is to understand the child completely, make a good bond with them and help them to learn infinite things. My strengths as a teacher are I understand the child by the face expressions, my teaching concept is pretty much strong and before teaching any child I make sure to plan the…

The most important thing a tutor can do isn’t to increase grades, it should be increasing a students curiosity and enjoyment for solving problems. This should be achieved by expanding the horizons of their mental frameworks and understanding. My strengths as a tutor are my ability to increase a student's understanding beyond what is needed for…

Tutor is a guidance and the support. A right tutor can shape the future of the student. As the Chinese proverb goes: "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for lifetime". Hence I would say tutor plays a very important role in shaping the education and career of the student by teaching him/her the right…

I think that communication and being on the same page (figuratively) as your student as very important. Younger people can often be hesitant to admit that they don't know something, so it is important to break down any barriers and understand the students needs. I am determined, patient, mature and motivated. I can try different methods of…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and foster a love for learning. Beyond just teaching concepts, a tutor should create a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. Personalizing lessons to match a students learning style ensures better…

Our daughter is enjoying having someone (who isn't either of her parents, and has more patience than we do as well!) take her step by step through what she doesn't 'get' and then work out strategies that will help her understand what the question is asking and how to approach it.

Inside Winston HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Kent focused on solving simultaneous equations and revising trigonometry concepts, including working through bearing problems with diagrams.

Year 11 student Miles worked on factorisation techniques and deepened understanding of logarithms, using real-world word problems to reinforce concepts.

Meanwhile, another Year 10 student tackled coordinate geometry by practicing mid-point and distance formulas as well as plotting points on graphs for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student arrived without finishing several homework pages, making it difficult to identify which skills needed extra support.

In Year 11, "she didn't complete any homework from the exam booklet I created for her"—missing out on practice that could have boosted confidence before assessments.

One Year 5 learner struggled to set out multiplication working neatly, often omitting steps: as a tutor wrote, "needs to structure out work in a manner that ables others to understand progress."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student kept forgetting formulas between lessons and had trouble applying them under timed conditions during class quizzes.

Recent Achievements

One Winston Hills tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously rushed through algebra questions is now taking time to structure her working, which has led to fewer errors and better marks in class quizzes.

A Year 9 boy, who used to hesitate when stuck, is starting to ask the tutor clarifying questions instead of giving up—a real shift towards independent problem-solving.

In a recent Year 4 session, a student who often avoided homework arrived with it completed and could explain her methods out loud before tackling new material.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Baulkham Hills Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Winston Hills Public School.
