I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is understand the nuances of learning capabilities and teach them in a manner that is both convenient and accessible to their minds. Different students have different styles of learning that cater to their needs best, that is why it is of utmost importance for a tutor to…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to understand their lifestyle and work according to that so that there is minimal pressure and more learning for them. In order to do that, it’s better to get to know the child and adjust according to what they prefer and how they want to be treated and/or taught. I think…

The special thing about a tutor compared to a classroom teacher is that tutors deal with students on a much more personal level, with this, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand and relate to the student personally his/her insights on the subject. Tutors can try to understand why the student either love,…

I believe tutors have the biggest impact on how a student approaches a subject. Speaking from personal experience, I don't think I would've liked studying the subjects I had in year 10, 11 and 12 if I hadn't had good teachers who knew how to make the subjects interesting to learn. A tutor is capable of making studying feel less burdensome and I…

- Being consistent with their students, setting a schedule to meet with them and follow up on prescribed work - the ability to adapt to the skill level of the student e.g. ramping up the difficulty of questions sooner if a student shows great confidence and performance in a certain field/concept - Patient, don't mind elaborating on concepts…

A tutor's role is to assist the student with any troubles they have with their study. We are here to support them and provide them with a deeper understanding of the subject they're learning. Having sat the HSC and completed high school, I know what it feels like to struggle with concepts we must study to pass the subject. I offer experience that…

The most important thing would be to make the lessons engaging and fun so the student doesn't feel forced to be there and is able to enjoy working on the subject and gain pleasure out of it. As a student I found that I did worse in subjects that weren't as engaging so I wanna make sure that my students are engages I would say my biggest strength…

Inside WedderburnTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Oliver focused on algebra by reviewing his recent exam and tackling equations homework, particularly working through challenges with negative signs.

For Year 10, Ethan practiced solving linear equations using targeted worksheets and also completed classwork on basic algebra to reinforce foundational skills.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Lilian learned about decimals—including place value—and completed maths homework sheets that introduced her to these new number concepts in practical contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student preparing for a trigonometry test often forgot to bring essential materials, like the calculator and workbook, which meant time was lost sourcing tools instead of practicing exam-style questions.

In Year 8 algebra, one student avoided showing working—"he tried to do steps mentally," as noted by the tutor—which led to missed sign errors in simplifying expressions.

For a Year 5 session on decimals and multiplication, distraction made it hard to finish longer problems without guidance.

Missed lessons and incomplete homework were also observed at both primary and senior levels, sometimes leaving gaps before new content was introduced.

Recent Achievements

One Wedderburn tutor recently saw a Year 11 student who, after struggling with simultaneous equations in the past, solved them independently for the first time. Another high schooler who'd previously needed lots of support with SOHCAHTOA now tackles those problems without any help and even brought her own challenging questions to discuss this week.

In a primary session, a younger student who often skipped homework surprised the tutor by not only completing all assigned tasks but also correctly flagging which algebra questions she found tricky so they could work through them together.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown City Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Helens Park Public School.
