I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. I think this confidence is important in not just getting high marks in quizzes and tests, but I believe that being confident will help them long-term in solving problems not just in school, even though…

The most important thing a tutor can do is create a good bond with the children and create confidence in allowing them to voice themselves. This voice allows them to carrying their convictions through school and be confident in his or her abilities. I feel I am relaxed with the children however stern when work is to be done. My relaxed nature…

Teach them how to think for themselves and how to be critical of any situation so that they may find answers on their own. Teach them that values are more important than success in life. Educate them to be all-rounders. Give them hope, encourage them and not allow failure to bring them down lest they may falter into the wrong path. I was…

Helping the student to believe that they've improved because of their efforts and not my own. If that can be accomplished, then the student's confidence in their abilities may significantly improve. My greatest strength as a tutor would be my communication skills. I am a confident speaker, which helps when exchanging complicated…

I don't hope to replace the school teachers completely. However 1 to 1 and smaller group engagements would help put in a more personal touch that would minimize the weakness of the student, bring the best out of them and build character (patience, resilience, analytical thinking) to supplement them to succeed in their education journey Analytical…

Students are often scared of certain subjects and avoid facing their problems. For a tutor to be successful at his/her job, they need to be able to help the child overcome those fears and enjoy the subject they were once afraid of. Tutoring can be very challenging sometimes. However, understanding every child's needs and focusing on helping them…

To begin with, a tutor must encourage a student to do better and learn from previous mistakes. Getting upset/impatient with a student is only going to discourage the student and prevent him/her from reaching potential; and that's the opposite of the desired goal. In addition, confidence has to be built in a student; this way a student will be able…

First of all, which a tutor can do is to be a friend who motivates them, make them learn, make them understand without any pressure and excel them in their early stage of career. Secondly, it's all about how comfortable the students are with tutor to ask them doubts without any hesitation. Thirdly, make them learn how to do a smart work instead…

Inside South GranvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Favour reviewed mistakes from the 2020 Western Past Paper and tackled several questions from the 2019 paper, focusing on clarifying tricky concepts.

Year 12 student went through HSC depreciation questions and selected problems from the WME Trial 2023, addressing practical finance calculations.

Another Year 12 student worked on trigonometry with right-angled triangles and bearings, using textbook exercises to build confidence in applying these skills to exam-style scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 English, one student's essays showed frequent repetition and unclear connections between ideas—"he needs to use a greater variety of connectives in his writing"—making responses harder to follow under timed conditions.

In Year 10 Mathematics, a student often left out units in answers and sometimes forgot essential materials for lessons; as noted, "homework and materials should be brought to every lesson."

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner hesitated to attempt more difficult fraction problems, sticking with familiar examples instead of challenging herself. This led to slower improvement on test-style questions requiring deeper understanding.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in South Granville recently noticed a Year 12 student who, after previously missing marks for unclear essay structure, took feedback on board and began rewriting his thesis statements more thoughtfully, even re-reading completed essays for better analysis.

In another session, a high schooler prepping for the HSC started working with friends outside of lessons to prepare quotes and themes—showing much more initiative than before.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once hesitated to ask questions now actively seeks help whenever she's unsure about maths problems, instead of guessing or skipping them.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Auburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Blaxcell Street Public School.
