One of the most important things in tutoring is to understand the way the student thinks, and the ways they learn most efficiently, through which the way of teaching can then by oriented or altered to suit the learner to learn most effectively. I can explain complex ideas in the most simple ways for students to understand, I always also create…

Understand them and yourself, it's important to acknowledge their limits as well as your own. If something isn't working then don't force it. Being able to understand concepts well and teach in a manner that is understandable to each…

Personally I believe it is very important to communicate the material to different types of students, everybody learns different and adapting to this is very important. Communication is key and you have to be clear when teaching content. I also believe it is important to create a safe space for students to be able to ask for help and feedback. As…

I provide detailed feedback which i believe is one of the most important things for someone to truly improve. How are you meant to improve if you dont know what things you need to work on. Its also important to relay the feedback patiently and not to discourage the other person. I am patient, I brainstorm different ideas to teach a concept to…

Be very patient and adaptable. Many students have different comprehension levels and a physics tutor must be ready to change their teaching strategies easily and always kindly be patient with the student to allow them to think freely and truly learn. My motivation and enthusiasm. Having dealt with my own struggles in middle school, I had always…

Inside Pakenham UpperTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Mehar focused on measuring and classifying angles using a protractor, as well as revising long division methods.

In Year 11, Gavin worked through graphing logarithmic and exponential functions by analysing how transformations shift graphs, and also practised anti-differentiation techniques for calculus.

Alexander in Year 12 prepared for a physics exam by tackling kinematics problems involving constant acceleration and forces on inclined planes, along with reviewing momentum transfer during collisions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student arrived without completed homework or organised notes, leading to gaps when revising area and perimeter formulas—"he did not have his own notes written down but follows teacher notes," making it harder to review later.

In Year 11 Maths Methods, a student's struggle with matrix multiplication revealed that incomplete personal notes and missing practice meant new concepts like transformations remained confusing.

During a Year 12 Physics session, test errors traced back to misapplied formulas—without deeper understanding or careful revision, he substituted the wrong values despite memorising terms. These moments left students stalled mid-question, unsure how to move forward independently.

Recent Achievements

One Pakenham Upper tutor noticed Omita, a primary student, now justifies his answers out loud when challenged on tricky area problems—a big step up from when he would simply guess and move on.

In Year 10 maths, Gavin showed new independence with quadratic inequalities; after struggling to link the discriminant to solution numbers last term, he confidently explained the reasoning behind his answers without prompting.

Meanwhile, Alex (Year 12) recalled not only which kinematic equations apply to different motion scenarios but also why energy conservation matters—something he'd previously mixed up—demonstrating this by choosing the right formula for a complex practice exam question.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cardinia Mobile Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Pakenham Hills Primary School.
