The most important things is that a tutor be able to have the student maximise their potential, and be able to direct them in the right direction to do so. A tutor is a guide for the student to be able to progress and maximise their abilities, which would make the student successful not only in the result, but their journey to achieve their…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be honest with the student, and make sure they give their all and try to help the student understand their work. Honesty should be number 1, as the tutor should not try to misguide their student since their future is in their hands. Also, putting 100% of their effort is also important to the student's…

I believe that tutors should be able to offer a balance between practical and theoretical advice for students when teaching a subject. Although its important that students develop a deep understanding of the subject they are learning, it's also important to offer practical advice such as exam tricks and tips, as well as which concepts to focus on…

I believe investing in the student's success by listening attentively, adapting to the child's learning style and creating an enjoyable learning environment is vital. By tailoring their approach to the student’s needs, tutors can enhance study habits, boost self-confidence, and provide efficient study strategies. These aspects are equally…

My method of tutoring is through patience and being available to the student. Not every student learns the same and not every student needs a tutor, but the time they start asking several questions for the first time, that is when you need to be available and be patient with every students progress. If the first interaction with a tutor goes bad…

The most imperative thing a tutor should do is to understand the nature and behavior of their student towards the subject and change the teaching style so that the student can get the hang of the subject thoroughly. I believe my most apparent strength is to relate with the mindset of students as I myself am a student and my confidence to teach…

Everyone has limits. But as a tutor I think I can increase their limit to a certain extent and willing to tutor them for even extra time without charging any money because My priority is that they understand everything slow and steadily. Tutors can do so much for students. To choose a few, a tutor should be honest and always try their best to educate and assist the student to their best capacity. Moreover, allowing the student to be okay with failing and making mistakes as part of the journey without feeling ashamed is critical to building their self-confidence and understanding…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student would be adjusting their teaching style in order to help cater to the students needs in learning. Hence, it deepens the students understanding of the content taught and allows them to be confident in themselves during circumstances such as exams. Strengths that I would consider myself having…

I realised that the real challenge often isn't the students' abilities but their engagement with the content. My goal as a tutor is to approach material proactively, sparking curiosity and encouraging students to ask 'why?' and 'how?' instead of passively accepting information at face value. I believe in creating an environment where students feel…

Inside LansvaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Lily revised expansion, simplification, and factorisation of algebraic equations and practised solving quadratic equations from class work.

Year 11 student Ahmad focused on financial mathematics by tackling credit, borrowing scenarios, and earning money calculations.

For Year 12, Sam worked through HSC-style questions involving probability concepts and advanced coordinate geometry using exam paper revision tasks.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, skipping written steps while using the quadratic formula led to confusion with negative signs—"he substituted too quickly and missed a minus."

For a Year 7 student, inconsistent homework completion meant formulas for volume and area weren't memorised; this caused hesitation during test revision.

Messy working in indices problems made error tracing difficult in senior years, especially under timed conditions.

During complex worded questions in Year 10, reliance on mental calculation rather than setting out logic clearly resulted in lost marks when revising past assessments.

These habits left students unsure where their errors crept in during independent practice.

Recent Achievements

One Lansvale tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 9 student who now confidently asks for clarification on tricky quadratic equations, rather than skipping problems as she did earlier in the term.

Another high schooler has moved from hesitating over financial maths questions to accurately calculating compound interest and using taxation tables without prompting.

Meanwhile, a primary student surprised her tutor by recognising which index laws applied in harder problems and applying them rapidly—just weeks ago, she would second-guess herself on even basic indices.

Last session, she solved the most challenging question on indices and volume entirely unaided.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Whitlam Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lansvale East Public School.
