I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student's confidence, explain concepts in a way that suits their learning style, and create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. It's not just about giving them the answers, it's about helping them understand the process so they can become…

A tutor in my perspective must be flexible and must be willing to offer any form of support, I.e. helping solve problems, explain concepts in detail, clear misconceptions, etc. Also it is important always maintains a positive attitude and encourages students to learn more. I also think a tutor should be able to provide their students with the…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, adapt to their learning style, and create a safe space for questions and mistakes. It's not just about helping them understand the content. It’s about helping them believe they can understand it. A good tutor should be patient, encouraging, and…

Local Reviews

We recently started tutoring for our two sons with Grigory. Grigory is polite and conscientious, on time and thorough. Grigory is diligent in setting up each session, seeking feedback from the boys, and has worked hard to understand their individual learning styles in order to maximise their experience and the value that they get from their time together. Grigory is patient, calm and thoughtful. We are very pleased with how the boys are responding to Grigory and they are enjoying the sessions with him.

Inside Chittaway PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Jayden practised calculating perimeter and area, as well as reading and constructing stem-and-leaf plots.

For Year 8, Olivia focused on rearranging algebraic equations and working with linear relations, using tables of values to support understanding.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Emma tackled surface area and volume problems involving prisms and cylinders, also reviewing probability concepts with real-life examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student in Mathematics often arrived at sessions without completing required online modules, making it difficult to review for upcoming assessments. As one tutor observed, "He needs to complete his modules before our tutoring session to ensure we can revise for his upcoming tests."

In Year 5, a student struggled with attention during lessons—drawing instead of engaging—leading to missed explanations and formula confusion between perimeter and area.

A senior student showed reluctance to write down working or take notes, resulting in forgotten steps after initial success.

Sessions sometimes began late or with devices uncharged, cutting into valuable learning time.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Chittaway Point recently noticed Frankie, a high school student, start talking through her problem-solving steps out loud—something she used to avoid when unsure. Now, if she's stuck, she immediately asks for clarification rather than guessing.

Jayden, also in high school, managed to complete nearly all his rearranging equations questions without assistance after weeks of struggling with the concept and often needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, Anureet in primary school initially hesitated with 11 times tables above 10Ă—11 but, after one targeted explanation, answered every question correctly when tested on them.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Entrance Library & Council Services—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chittaway Bay Public School.
