I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to show them their worth, learning-wise. There are so many people who convince themselves that they are incapable of obtaining good marks, setting them up for instant failure. A good tutor is one who can identify strengths as well as weaknesses, and rather than use the…

I think the most important things a tutor can do is help students build confidence, make the subject less intimidating, and adapt my teaching to suit how they learn best. Some of my strengths that would make me a good tutor are that I’m patient and a good listener and am able to explain concepts in multiple ways depending on how someone learns…

The most important thing I can do for a student is support them in a way that suits how they learn best. Every student is different, so I focus on adapting my explanations and pace to what works for them. I aim to build good learning habits by helping students organise their thinking, approach problems with structure, and develop strategies they…

Education can be extremely enjoyable but, understandably, if students cannot grasp concepts and ideas, they quickly lose interest. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to show their students that learning can actually be fun by teaching them about new ways of thinking. This, in turn, would help them engage in the content of a…

In my opinion, the most important things a tutor can do for a student is believing in the students and their ability to succeed, thus, of course not only me but my students will never give up on themselves but be more motivated to become better and better everyday. As a tutor, my major strength is my experience. I have been teaching for a long…

I think that a tutor can help a student in every way. A tutor can allow the student to develop socially, mentally and philosophically. I think i can understand a student's mindset. I know how to teach them in order to let them enjoy their studies. I allow a student to realize his potential and apply that in his…

The most important things a tutor can do is to guide students to be able to learn and figure out problems themselves. A good tutor will personalize the learning experience teaching to the students strengths so they can more easily undersand difficult concepts. The ultimate goal of a tutor should be teaching students how to learn so they can become…

Being able to have a postivie relationship with a student. I think good teachers are able to have positive relationships with their students and also know exactly what they are doing. I believe I can be able to have good relationships with a student easily as I am easily approachable. However, I have not done much math since highschool and my…

Inside Calder ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Aryan worked on representing and interpreting data using different types of graphs, then explored measures of centre including mean, median, mode, and range.

In Year 8, Jake focused on algebraic expressions—learning how to collect like terms and expand brackets step-by-step.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Sarah practised applying the Pythagoras theorem to solve problems involving right-angled triangles and was introduced to basic trigonometry concepts like sine, cosine, and tangent using SOH CAH TOA.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students faced challenges with test-taking processes, especially under timed conditions in mathematics.

For example, one Year 10 student "needed more practice being focused on task and timed," leading to rushed working during trigonometry revision.

A Year 8 learner struggled with interpreting worded problems—"difficulty understanding certain words" left some questions unanswered in assessments.

At the primary level, another student hesitated with multiplication tables when put under test pressure, slowing down progress through number facts.

In Year 12, over-reliance on a CAS calculator caused hesitation recalling formulas without support; confidence wavered as unfamiliar topics appeared.

Recent Achievements

One Calder Park tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 9 student who used to freeze when facing trigonometry questions—last session, she confidently identified opposite, adjacent, and hypotenuse sides and could calculate missing angles with little prompting.

In Year 11, another student showed new independence by spotting algebraic errors on his own and fixing them immediately, rather than waiting for guidance as he did before.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who had previously needed step-by-step help surprised her tutor by working through mixed fraction addition solo and checking her own answers for mistakes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sydenham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Overnewton Anglican Community College - Canowindra Campus.
